and so it begins …
April 22, 2008 at 2:13 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentBEST BIT OF THE DAY – Mommy and Daddy Meet Uncle Daddy – oh please let this be an ongoing bit – i’m getting giddy just thinking about it!!
Today’s show was kind of a blur – it was my first day back after 10 weeks of maternity leave and it was definitely an adjustment trying to get back into the swing of things!!! for those of you who have no idea who i am – my name is dianthe (it’s pronounced de-ON-thay and i always write my name with a lowercase “d”) and for the last 5 years, i have been the phone screener for Kidd Kraddick in the Morning – before that, i was a listener – just like you guys – i entered a contest on the show (Kidd’s Krib for those who were around back in 2002) and won and was later offered a job as a phone screener – being a HUGE fan of the show, i jumped at it – and 5 years later, i’m still here – only now, i have passed the phone screening torch on to Karen and Tamara and have a new gig – i’ll still be doing some behind the scenes show stuff but the main part will be writing a synopsis of the show – this is the first synopsis that the show has had in quite a while – and it’s coming with a twist – for the first time ever, the synopsis will be interactive – we’re bringing back the KKITM chat room – but it’s returning with a twist also! we really want listeners to get involved with the show – so the chat room will be for our true fans of the show – you’ll have to sign up for the chat room and there will be a limited amount of spaces every day – now don’t think you can get into the chat room and then lurk all morning – in the words of Dr. Phil, “if you’re not contributing to a relationship, you’re contaminating it” – while that may be overstating it a bit, the premise holds true – if you’re coming to hang out in the KKITM Chat Room, you gotta talk about KKITM – and if you think it was tough to get through on the phones – well, that was nothing!!! I’m going to incorporate the chat room comments into the synopsis, so If you‘re in the chat room and you don’t have anything good to say, you’re getting bumped – HOLLA’!! think of me as your link to the show – even if you don’t make the synopsis, i’ll still pass on your comments to the show – so make sure you’re bringing your A Game – don’t come with your weak “that was funny” – I’m looking for witty and insightful commentary – bring the good stuff so I can put you in the synopsis – and if you suck – well, buh-BYE!!!
I love the first break of the show – 99% of the time, it’s something personal about the people on the show and that’s my favorite part – they always start with a teaser of what is going on in their lives – now whether or not we ever get to the actual story is a whole other deal – but I still like to hear what they start off with
Kellie – Kellie has decided that she needs a tan to go with her new svelte body (she is so freaking thin – she looks amazing!!) so she bought a chaise from Walmart – because you know Kellie “I ain’t spending a ton of money on no expensive patio furniture” – of course Kidd and Al took this opportunity to jump on Kellie for her rediscovered Southern accent (her parents are in town) and her thriftiness – and Al suggested we turn the “I ain’t spending a ton of money” into a bit – I have to admit, that could be good one – with all the cheap people in the world, can you imagine the calls we’d get on that?? I think it could be the replacement for “Does That Make Me Crazy”
next up, Big Al – here is a story I definitely want to hear – Al bought a drink for a guy at the bar (why he bought a drink for a guy, i’ll never know!) and the guy took it as an opportunity to drink on Al’s tab the rest of the night without telling him – poor Al!!!
J-Si – Kinsey is mad at J-Si because he was spending time with Kellie late Friday night – uh oh – has Al been replaced?? we all know that Kidd has been jealous of Kellie and Big Al’s new BFF status – what will he think about J-Si and Kellie?
Shanon – she was licked in the ear by a 300 pound man – other than “ewwww”, I don’t know what to say
I’m super excited about being back and I really missed everybody – And then of course because Kidd is needy and insecure (not really – but it makes me laugh to write it) Kidd asked me who I missed most – well duh. Kellie!! She is my fave and I love her!! and then of course there is Shanon – cause we go way back – and then J-Si – I love his punny jokes – and I even kinda missed Big Al – and then there is Andrew who has suddenly become an overnight radio star – what’s up with that? and then Dino – cause he sends the Hizzle audio – and then Ben – the webmaster – and of course Josh, because he comes every morning to say hi – and Gailya and Carolyn – and then Brenda – and oh yeah – Lindsay (who is getting married and no one told me!!) – oh yeah, and then there’s that guy Kidd – I missed him a little bit too! Hahaha !! Kidd knows him I love him – after all, I wouldn’t even be here without him – but it’s way fun to harass him the way he harasses Kellie!!
Freddy (from Music That Makes You Cooler) is going to be on the show this Friday – this led into a whole debate about this Friday vs. next Friday – yes, these are the important topics that the show discusses – not saving the planet, not world peace – which is the correct term? THIS Friday or Next Friday – this topic is only second to the importance of teaching Big Al the difference between a “mute” point and a “moot” point – note to self: buy Al a dictionary for Christmas - so if you were listening last week, you know the story of Freddy (who looks just like Adrian Grenier from Entourage) – and if you don’t know the story, check out Kidd Calls Freddy on the KPod for the recap – but the short version is that Kidd found Freddy on MySpace (http:// myspace.com/freddy ) and decided to feature him on Music That Makes You Cooler – his music is pretty great and Kidd offered him a chance to come perform on the show – but Freddy had to run it buy his parents since he dropped out of school and had a breakdown when he got screwed by his record label the first time around – so today we’ll find out if Freddy’s parents are going to let him come to the show and perform – over the weekend, Kidd was at Tiger Jam in Vegas and his team won thanks to Kidd, the MVP – fyi, the MVP title was self-proclaimed – see, Kidd’s bum finger prevented him from playing and he was replaced by NBA great Mark Aguirre – and Mark made a putt from 90 feet for eagle to win the tourney – now Kidd says that made him the MVP because the team wouldn’t have won if Mark hadn’t replaced him – um, can you really deem yourself MVP if you didn’t actually participate?? I don’t think so and neither does J-Si – he tried to call Kidd out by saying that not playing didn’t make him an MVP – but Kidd had a comparison up his sleeve – he said that if J-Si couldn’t make the show and decided to call Rich to replace him, that would save the show and J-Si would be the MVP – um, RUDE!!! J-Si was offended and I don’t blame him – don’t worry J-Si, I got your back! It’s no secret that I was not a fan of Rich – so if Rich replaced J-Si , that would NOT be an improvement !!
Hizzle Time – it wouldn’t be KKITM if A.D.D Kidd didn’t get distracted by something – today, it was Kellie doing curls during the show – now for all of you playing along at home, you never would have known that Kellie was working out during the show if Kidd hadn’t pointed it out – which led to him asking for an in studio BowFlex – see, here’s the difference – Kellie, capable of multi-tasking – Kidd, not so much!
Back to the Hizzle – Kellie’s story was about Lindsay Lohan – she’s been hanging out with DJ Samantha Ronson again and was throwing back Vodka Red Bulls over the weekend in New York – I guess she’s not on the wagon anymore –anyway, Kellie ended her story with “Smoking and drinking ain’t good” – and that ladies and gentlemen is the wisdom of the great Kellie Rasberry – I wonder if that will be in the recreation of Mommy and Daddy Meet Uncle Daddy
So when we last talked to Freddy, he was going to check with his parents to see if they were okay with him road tripping to Dallas to perform on the show – the Freddy Got Gas Tour continues – Kidd hasn’t talked to him so Freddy will tell us yes or no in 20 minutes (yeah right!!)
No one loves a surprise more than me – I love to get surprises and I love to give them – especially when they are truly surprises – and today was a great one – we talked to 18 year old Erika who is like, the Super Senior – she has good grades, participates in extra-curricular activities (track, cross country, soccer, ROTC) and works – her dad isn’t around and isn’t paying child support and her mom is on disability so there isn’t any extra cash – senior year can get really expensive with all of the senior activities but instead of whining about it, Erika took initiative and got a job – in fact she got 2 – and instead of hanging out partying on the weekend (like I did in high school) she works – and when I say works, I’m talking real working – all day Saturday AND Sunday – from 7 in the morning til midnight – all of this to pay for Project graduation and her Senior Trip and all the other costs that come up senior year – you know, like senior pictures and graduation invitations and cap and gown – and what is the biggest thing going on when you’re a girl and you’re a senior – no, not pregnancy like Big AL suggested – PROM!!! But life sucks when you get dumped by your boyfriend before the prom – and it really sucks when you get dumped because you won’t give it up – are you serious?? Her boyfriend dumped her because she wouldn’t have sex with him – he’s a jerk – and good for her for not giving in to that crap!!! So we heard about Erika and decided to see if we could make things a little easier for her - with a little help from Mike Kaplan (the New Orleans PD ), Erika is getting the prom hook up – dinner, dress, hair and makeup – first class prom night – and the biggest thing – we’re sending J-Si to New Orleans to be Erika’s date at the Covington High School Prom – the best part of this whole thing is that Erika was truly surprised and truly excited – I’ve been at this for a while now and nothing sucks the life out of you more than giving away a cool surprise and getting almost no reaction – she was super pumped and she even cried – which of course made me tear up a little also – I love it when good things come to people who really deserve it!! And I’m glad she said yes – how sad would that have been if she had dissed J-Si – actually it would have been kind of funny – but oh well … (if you’re wondering what song was played during the break it’s “I Like The Way” by Freddy) – anyway, it was a sweet moment until Al jumped in to ruin it – he thought that since J-Si was doing a good deed, he would do one too – but I don’t think calling Kinsey on air and offering to buy her a new dress and take her out while J-Si was at prom actually qualifies as a good deed - seriously Al – let it go – Kinsey will NEVA’, EVA’ , EVA’ want you ::sighs and shakes head:: poor Al – no wonder you got called pathetic this weekend
Jason Mraz is in studio today and there’s already a pretty good crowd forming outside – personally I couldn’t pick Jason Mraz’ songs out of a line up (though I do like the jingle he recorded for the show the last time he was here) so I’m looking forward to hearing him today – in the meantime, we finally get to hear what Freddy decided about the “Freddy Needs Gas” tour – apparently he’s been swamped with emails and MySpace messages since Friday’s show – and since he’s not big time yet, he still answers every email and message personally – um, yeah – that won’t last for long!! It’s just a matter of time before he’s paying some minion to respond as him – isn’t that how they do it out in Hollywood? Anyway, Freddy wanted to get his parents blessing before agreeing to this crazy radio bit – and who could blame him – I mean, when you drop out of school to go be a rock star and your dream ends with your parents having to travel across the country to rescue you from the depths of despair, it’s probably a good idea to get their blessing when you want to try the rock star thing again – especially when you’re 21 years old and they’re still footing the bill!! so, being proactive , Freddy talked to his teachers about missing class before going to his parents (because Kidd told him he was absolutely not allowed to drop out of school) and asked if he could miss a week of class as long as he kept up with his classwork while he was gone – all of his teachers agreed and one even said he could do everything by email because “who am I to stand in the way of rock stardom” – man, I NEVER had teachers like that – of course, I only wanted to skip class to do things like go to Mardi Gras or sleep in because I had a hangover – I guess that’s not exactly the same thing as following your dream – but whatev – So Freddy ran it by his parents and his dad said that as long as Freddy didn’t miss any schoolwork and promised to finish the semester, it was okay – the crowd outside cheered but Kidd missed it and we had to re-do it – but don’t worry, with the magic of radio it’ll sound perfect on the promo!! So the tour starts today and fortunately for Freddy, we have an affiliate close to Philly (which is where Freddy goes to school) – now all he has to do is set up a concert, perform, find a place to stay and make enough money to get him to his next destination – and he has to do this all today – oh yeah, he’s also got to find a UHaul because he has to take the piano that is being loaned to him by Yamaha – good luck with that dude!!! And once again, Al interjected yet another “brilliant” idea – he suggested that listeners join in on the tour and convoy with Freddy to Dallas – like a groupie tour – and like the movie Beetlejuice, at the mention of the word “convoy”, the song magically appears – WOW – I haven’t heard Kidd play “Convoy” on the show in YEARS – if you’re a longtime listener, you’ll know that Kidd used to play the hook often – yeah, I don’t miss that at all!
Anyway, back to Freddy – Philly is apparently 97 miles from our new Wilkes-Barre/Scranton affiliate (and Barre is pronounced “berry”) and A.J., the Program Director, has offered to help with the concert – he’s secured a spot that is big enough to hold a few hundred people – hmm … do that many people in Pennsylvania love Freddy – I mean, the KKITM show is big – possibly even HUGE!! but are we huge enough to send hundreds of people to see Freddy with one day’s notice – Kidd didn’t seem to think so – and I think I’m going to have to agree – I guess we’ll find out tomorrow - and if you’re in the area, go see Freddy today at 5pm – he’s performing at The Woodlands Inn and Resort in Scranton
During The Break – Jason Mraz is in the building – maybe it’s just me but I think he may be too cool for the room – he came in with sunglasses and a wool hat – I hate people who wear sunglasses indoors – the lights are fluorescent and all, but they’re not THAT bright! Anyway, the word around the building is that Jason is pretty laid back – in a “hey, is it 4:20?” kind of way – not saying that he participates, just that he has that kind of laid back vibe – I think it’s an artist thing
The thing I’ve been waiting for all morning – the Not Ready for Drive Time Players – “Mommy and Daddy Meet Uncle Daddy” – I love all things Kellie Rasberry – even when Kidd makes fun of her family – I know Kellie doesn’t think it’s nearly as funny as anyone else – but how can you not laugh at Kidd’s accent?? Co-me-dy!! i haven’t heard the script but I’m willing to bet that Kellie will not be on board – insert “BitKiller” drop here
So Al reads the intro and in true Al fashion, he screwed it up – ugh. Do we expect any less? And can someone tell me when Kellie and Uncle Daddy are going to transition from ”the girl/guy I’m dating” to “boyfriend and girlfriend” - I mean, if you’re not dating anyone else, aren’t you boyfriend and girlfriend?? There’s no way I could truly capture the greatness of “Mommy and Daddy Meet Uncle Daddy” so you’ll have to go listen to it on the K-Pod – but here’s a few reasons why you shouldn’t miss this one:
“And that’s why, Kellie, you should never uncross your legs in public”
2 words – possum casserole!!
More plays on Shanon and Uncle Daddy’s “secret” relationship”
J-Si’s terrible impression of Uncle Daddy – I haven’t even met Uncle Daddy and I could tell it was awful – funny … but awful!
And last but not least – Al’s inappropriate comment about Kidd nailing Connie (Kellie’s mama)
Stay tuned because apparently this was only Day One, Episode One of “Mommy and Daddy Meet Uncle Daddy” – this could very well be Radio Gold
Jason Mraz in studio – I don’t know who finally instituted the web cam but it is awesome – seeing Jason perform was pretty impressive – he has a great voice and performed an impromptu version of “This Is Why I’m Hot” – I never knew a silly rap song could sound so good! He may be super laid back but that voice is yummy!! His newest song is “I’m Yours” and Pepsi is spending big money promoting it – maybe they should invest some of that money in getting Jason to take it up a notch – Kidd was a little pissy because Jason was so low key – again, I think it’s an “I’m an artiste” thing – but whatev – come on dude – it’s radio!! Kidd suggested Jason and Sara Bareilles should get together because she interviews the same way – and leave it to Kellie to come with the master impression – oh well, his second song was way upbeat so I think it made up for his relaxed way – it’s called “Dynamo of Evolution” and according to Jason, the song is about “the energy people exchange when they give each other a high five” – um, okay … a little out there, but still a cool song – though I don’t know he was able to sig that fast – it sounded like acoustic rap – anyway, if you’re into Jason Mraz, his new album comes out May 13th – and if you’re going to the show in New Orleans tonight, I’d love to hear about it
During The Break – I haven’t really had time to catch up with anyone so when Kellie passed by, I snagged her to get some dish – wow – she looks awesome!!! She is so freaking thin – call me jealous, because I am!!! she gave me the lowdown on this diet thing she’s doing – it sounds WAY hard – it involves B12 shots, some sort of cream and a very strict diet – but she is bound and determined not to lose this bet and I don’t blame her – plus if it gets her back to her wedding day weight, more power to her!!
FINALLY – why would a woman call Al pathetic and can you guess who it was – hmmm … Bartendica perhaps?? Well, duh. Bartendica says that Al is not making her a priority and not treating her the way she deserves to be treated – same story, different day – here’s my personal take on the whole thing – she dated Al once before and it didn’t work out then for whatever reason – but did she really think Al had changed? I know I give Al a hard time 0 but I really do love him – and while he’s made some really big strides, the man is a commitmentphobe – it is time for them both to go there separate ways – Kidd said the day Al lost Bartendica was the day Al bought her a computer – there may be something to that …
I love contests – especially ones you can play along at home – so here we go – you can’t actually win the trip (cause we have to give it away on air), but I bet you can get the answers just by the clues – so if you want to play along …

So my first day back was kind of hectic – it usually is when we have a guest in studio – so that, combined with my new duties (that’s right, I said duties) – well, it may take me a couple of days to get my rhythm back – and I tend to be a little (or a lot) wordy and I really don’t want this to suck – so I’m open to feedback – and I can take negative – but don’t be nasty for the sake of being nasty – if you don’t like something say so – but be constructive – and if something is really, really bad – I’m using Sydney as my excuse – after all, isn’t that what kids are for???
